Great Lakes teams have strong showing and earn tremendous respect at National Tournament

The players from Illinois had a great showing for the Great Lakes National teams at the National Tournament at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania over Memorial Day weekend. For the first time, Team 1 played in Division 1 and faced some of the top players in the country, including New York 1, which played for the Division 1 High School Championship. Even though Team 1 didn`t advance to the playoffs, they were very competetive and earned a lot of attention as they led or rallied back in most of their close games. Team 1 finished up with three losses, two of which came in the closing minutes of the game, a tie and a win on Sunday in their final game.

Team 2 won three of their five games, beating Southeast 1, Lower Atlantic 1 and North Central 1 and making a strong showing for lacrosse in the midwest.

Steve Dunn from Lake Forest and John Dwyer from Loyola coached Team 1. Players from Illinois included:

Jillian Heinz, New Trier

Jesse Bowen, New Trier

Sara Buxton, New Trier

Kelley Brennan, New Trier

Kathleen Dwyer, Loyola

Katie Matthews, Loyola

Caroline Tesar, Loyola

Hannah Alley, Lake Forest

Lisa Landoe, Lake Forest
