Loyola Captures 2009 State Championship
In a defensive battle, Loyola and New Trier were scoreless for the first 13 minutes of the game, when the Ramblers struck first. Loyola would go up 3-0 before the Trevians scored with 2:43 left in the half. Leading 4-1 at half, Loyola won the draw and scored to make it 5-1. New Trier fought back to within one goal twice, but when it was 6-5, Loyola's Grace Bowen grabbed the draw and took the ball to the cage for a big score that gave the Ramblers the momentum back.
Loyola would go on to win 8-5 by controlling the ball on the ground and applying tremendous pressure on the Trevians during transition. Despite playing great defense, New Trier turned the ball over too much and Loyola was able to control the tempo of the game.
Loyola finishes the season 22-3. New Trier finishes 19-5. Congratulations to the Ramblers 4th state title since the IHSWLA was formed in 1998.
In the 3rd place game, Hinsdale Central jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Lake Forest battled back in a thriller. The Red Devils held on to win 13-12.
